Bandcamp Gems #1: Blackened-Vapor-Gaze
pripristinya - sink into sweet things
I found this demo while trawling through the depths of the "Black Metal" tag on Bandcamp, deep into a caffeinated blur. What originally caught my attention was the highly stylized cover art that, in a sea of grainy, high-contrast, black-and-white album covers, stuck out boldly. On first listen, the dazzling synth arpeggios of "prismatic wound of auto-decay" lured me into a trance before a rush of chugging echo-y guitars and drum machine blast beats shook me awake. While clearly in the lineage of Gen-Z blackgaze, pripistinya take that influence and push further into synth to deliver a sound closer to vaporwave at times than dungeon synth. This is especially apparent on the second track "doves," which kicks off with a bouncy drum machine groove before transitioning into a wall of tremolo-picked guitar, drenched in reverb. The outro, "pure november," is a distorted synth piece falling apart at the seams, fogged in MP3 artifacting. A fun little release overall, short and sweet.
